A'Levels Welcome Party.

Questions like “welcome per kya pehn rahay ho?” and “welcome ka kya scene hai?” were soon in the air as the posters for the first official event of Lahore Grammar School, Paragon City, The Welcome Party, hit the walls of the A’ levels floor. Preparations were carried on under the supervision of Mrs. Shehnaz Sheikh and Ms. Asma Israr, with all the A’ levels students and faculty looking forward to this mega event on Friday, 9th October, 2009.
Finally the big day arrived and the A’ levels students started to roll into the school around 6:30 P.M. They were literally bullied by Mahnoor and Nabeel for what they were wearing. The boys were asked to show the tags on their suits from the “Fashion Police a.k.a Mahnoor Ghalib”, to assure that they were branded. The dress code for the Gentlemen was a Formal one and for the Ladies it was a Formal cum Fancy one. Well, the outfits just depicted that the entire day was spent in just getting ready to rock the party and all the students did looked pretty stunning.
Tariq and Maryam gave a kick start to the party and they invited Mr. Salman Yasin for an opening speech which was not at all boring (Quite Astounding, Isn’t it…?). He welcomed the first batch of LGS Paragon City wholeheartedly and wished them the best of Luck.
Ahsan Azhar came up with his superb singing performance and rocked the atmosphere with some nice love songs. Then came the renowned Ammar Waris Baig who set the party into swing by his enchanting voice with the songs like, “You Are Beautiful, Tou He Meri Shab Hai” and many more.
Next came the “Real Party Boys” The “4-D” (Ahsan Azhar, Saad Aslam, Zaim Jaffery, Ahmed Tariq & Ali Yousaf) and brought the Ultimate Entertainment  for all of us. They started off with some superb street dance (Hip Hop) moves and then all of a sudden Ali Yousaf came to the dance floor to stun everybody with his marvelous Micheal Jackson’s Moon Walk. The dance drag the party to its epic and the 4-D were asked to perform their dance once again. Then the DJ continued to play some nice party songs and Mrs. Shehnaz and some of the boys hit the dance floor, a few ladies also joined the bhangra and the crowd got bigger and bigger. Soon the faculty members joined in too and the party once again touched its epic.
Slowly, the music died and  the euphoric dancers were replaced by the waltz as the ladies and gentlemen danced to the rhythm, hand in hand which looked super charming. The students, exhausted by than, started to move into the Football Field where the dinner was served and everyone treated their taste buds with the “Desi cuisine” including the mouth watering, B.B.Q and Chicken Baryani.
After eating to their hearts everybody moved into the party area again and the dance floor was once again jammed by the party hooligans. The party finally came to a halt as Sara and Arslan got onto the stage to announce the “Lady Of The Evening & The Gentleman Of The Evening”. From a whole lot of the nominees Zoya and Ahmed Tariq were crowned respectively. Though all the ladies in their gowns were looking glamorous as well as the gentlemen in their finest suits were looking smart.
Finally, the party came to an end, which none of the students wanted for sure but the first event of LGS Paragon was a great success and we are all looking forward to more mega-events in the future.

Student Council.

LGS Paragon, being a new campus, had many important decisions to make and one of the most important ones was the selection of the student council.

All those students who wanted to become a part of the student council were told to submit an application along with their resumes by the 1st of October, 2009.

After almost a week of the submission of applications, the applicants were called for their interviews. The interviews were taken by a jury of five members, Namely: the principal Mr. Salman Yasin, O/A level co-ordinator Mr. Shabbir Afzal, Senior teacher Ms. Zainab Khan, Event Organizer Ms. Shehnaz Sheikh and Headmaster Mr. Amjad Iqbal.

There were almost 40 applicants out of whom only 14 were chosen, 9 College Prefects, A Head-Boy, A Head-Girl, A Deputy Head-Girl and 2 Deputy Head-Boys. The council was selected on a basis of their confidence, leadership qualities, personality and their academic performances.

Arfa bin Saqib was chosen as the Head-Boy, Huma Zahid as the Head-Girl, Rameen Malik as the Deputy Head-Girl and the 2 Deputy Head-Boys were Ismail Abdul Wahid and Muhammad Ali. There were only 9 college prefects; Fatima Hasnain, Maryam Anwar, Ghulam Mujtaba, Daraab Wali Furqan, Omesh Francis, Aneeq Khatana, Tariq Iqtidar, Arsalan Farrukh and Muhammad Bin Khalid.

The names of the selected members were announced at the assembly held on Monday, 19th October 2009. The council members are expected to be at their best and we hope that they perform their duties with honesty and dedication and set an example for years to follow.

ACMUN 2009.

The first ever ACMUN – ‘Aitchison College Model United Nations’, was held on the 14th of October, 2009 and extended to the 16th. Teams from all over Pakistan were eager and awaiting the inaugural competition since February, and it lived up to the expectations.

The ACMUN ’09 was a three day event, filled with excitement, fun and great socialising, not to mention the long discussion sessions, in which delegates were at their very best to resolve issues concerning their respective committees. Delegates came from schools from Islamabad and Sialkot as well as other cities in the Punjab.

There were a total of six committees, which held 5 sessions each. The sessions were spread over the three day time span, each stretching to 3 hours, excluding the first, 1-hour, information session. The sessions were not just boring discussions and arguments between delegates of different countries, but also included numerous entertainment sessions, in which the delegates were free to do anything they wanted, dancing, singing, writing anonymous notes, or even resting their heads.
Besides the committee sessions, there were social events, including ‘Global Village’, ‘Battle Of The Bands’ and the formal dinner, held on different days in the same order.

The ‘GLOBAL VILLAGE’ was the ultimate litmus test of our creativity, where we had to display our country’s culture, express our country’s traditions, cuisine, artefacts and even clothes. Check out Hamna and Maryam in the pics ;-). Teams were judged on originality and the accuracy of factual information that we had about our country. We are proud to convey, that with hard work and an extra-ordinary effort from our school’s art team, our school won the 4th prize out of 31 in the global village.

The ‘BATTLE OF THE BANDS’ was an amazing event with 12 different bands competing for the prize, but disappointingly, it was called off in the middle, just as things were heating up – or else we would have won, obviously :-).

The ‘FORMAL DINNER’ was really, really............not that good. There were no tables and we had no place to put our glasses or papers, enough for the ‘FORMAL’ part. But it was nice otherwise, mixing with all the other delegates and saying our goodbyes. Oh, and the food was good, I guess.
Overall, we would have to give Aitchison College a thumbs up, on a great effort and an amazing effort to organize such a major event which went according to plan and expectations.
Ohhh, and I almost forgot, our school’s delegates were, Muhammad Ali, Ismail Abdul Wahid, Abdul Qavi Khan, Nauman Malik, Humna Adeeb and Maryam Anwar. And our assigned country was Finland.

Parliamentary Debates At LUMS.

The parliamentary debate held at LUMS on 6 September 09, was a toughly contested one. There were 4 participant teams, namely, LGS 1.A.1, LGS Paragon, Beaconhouse Garden Town and Aitchison College, and they were all at their best, heating up the debate, “ THBT head scarves should be banned in Turkey ”. The debates were university style, two on two, with two proposition teams, ours and Aitchison College’s, and two teams opposing the topic, the remainder of the aforementioned teams. The debate was witnessed by debaters from all over Pakistan, and our school had tremendous support. Our speakers, Arfa bin Saqib and Tariq Iqtidar, managed to grab second place, and Aitchison were announced the winners, with 1.A.1 coming in third, but we are still definitely proud of our students and we’ll always support them, Wholeheartedly.

Sports At LGS Paragon.

Let’s start off with our not so…..wait, we can’t do offensive stuff here. Okay, so let’s start off with our very respectable sports teacher; Sir Zia-Ud-Burkee. Phew, I hope I got the name right. Anyways, His appearance really puts us under the impression that he’s one of those very formal teachers who are going teach the brains out of us which we obviously don’t have. From no angle does he look like a sports teacher. So it took us students around zillion days to realize that Sir Burkee is our not so…I mean our very respectable Sports teacher. On a serious note, he has a very enraged personality for some weird reason none of us know. It seems like he’s always in a bad mood, ready to punch any student in the face and most of all, not allow to us play anything. Yes, you got me right, our sports teacher lets us do anything and I mean anything except for playing sports. His reason being; the juniors are so cute and adorable that they own the football ground. Bingo! Second reason being, the juniors are so innocent that they would get disturbed if we play in the basketball court. Bingo! Third reason, the kids can get hurt if we play football in the table-tennis area. Bingo! Yet again. So yeah, our beloved sports teacher allows us to do anything but play any sort of sports or games. The football team has never got to touch the football, let alone practicing in the football field. The basketball team has never got to touch the basketball in the basketball court let alone practicing together. And guess what, Punjab Olympics is in November and the football team has just played 2 matches together as a team.

This is the status of our sports management. I mean no offense to anyone though I wish I could, from the above text and I’m pretty sure it is proved that they are very well organized, efficient, and straight forward. This is how our sports life is, in college. I am sure a day would come when they would say those little kids/juniors will go play against the 18 year olds because they get disturbed if we seniors get to play. Well that’s how my sports life goes in this college and I’m sure most of the students share my view. Great minds think alike, ehhh :-) .

Okay, let’s get to the serious part, the football team has been finalized and we have the Punjab Olympics starting from November 17th. Best part, we are drawn to the toughest teams in the group including Lacas, G.C.U and Beaconhouse. Best part yet again, we haven’t practiced, we are not allowed to play soccer in the football field because the juniors are way too cute and adorable. We don’t get to practice elsewhere because there is no back-hand from the school management. So, technically we are in afflictive condition, on a better note, The School’s football team played 2 matches against F.C College and such was the potential of our team that we beat them twice in their home ground on 2 consecutive days. So much potential, so much talent yet no one utilizes us. We don’t get to practice, we don’t get to sit together and discuss anything, hell we don’t even get to see a football in between our feet in the college and I would repeat again, we have to play in the Punjab Olympics soon.  Oh Yeah, The Table Tennis team also had a visit to Sicas & they won the match. Well, putting aside football, same is the case with the Basketball team. They don’t get to practice together; they don’t even know who their teammates are. Such excellent is the condition of our sports life in the college. No wonder most of the time students waste their time on break dances with their pathetic attempt to imitate Michael Jackson (no, they aren’t so bad honestly speaking).

Anyways, Paragonites have no sports life at all because as I’ve told you all this time, the little juniors have to be protected because they don’t have hands, legs and their faces are so cute and that is the sole reason due to which we are not allowed to play. That’s it from my side.  Adios!

Spicy Gossips & Sugar Coated Scandals.

(The reports are being published with full evidence, provided to us by our special reporter, AgEnT X. "No Names" are being given out as this stuff is only for fun & not to mock anyone)

~Scandal Number 1~

"Yaar, Bachi check kar. !", said Mr. A.
"Khabardaar, Bhabi hai teri. !", replied Mr. B.

This is what AgEnT X heard as two of the A' Level chaps discussed Miss A sitting in the middle of the common room. AgEnT X decided to further his investigations and soon found out that Mr. B had indeed started to FLIRT with Miss A, who was already committed (sources tell), tried to avoid this OVER-FRIENDLY stranger but ended up developing a soft corner for him in the corner of her heart. Meanwhile Mr. B (a renowned flirt) proposed to ANOTHER girl in the common room. This totally broke Miss A's heart. And THIS is the place where the TWIST begins. Miss A was discussing her future strategies on the issue with her friends in the common room, in particular with Miss B (famous for her hardwork in the first Mega Event at LGS Paragon), when suddenly a friend of Mr. B (*a lady) entered the room and started to speak about. . . well THAT does not need an explanation. Anyway, the common room was put into a microwave that Friday and SILENCE  flew everywhere..... with the exception of TWO ladies, 1)a friend of the heart-broken Miss A and 2)a friend of the heart-breaker Mr. B (*a lady). Voices grew louder and within no time, both had hands over one another. Not just hands, legs and vocal power were utilised properly and then, all one could make out of what was being said was...." Meow, Meow !!!"
Finally, friendly powers intervened and stopped the CAT FIGHT. Sources tell that everything is "CHILL" between the two parties now once again. This should not however be forgotten that Mr. A was reported to have been involved in another fight with another party which is still under the Headmaster's consideration. And the friend of Miss A (Miss B) was also a well-known fighter at her previous school that she attended.
Any latest developments will be reported as soon as they occur.

~Scandal Number 2~

Another afternoon, AgEnT X was sitting infront of the cafe preparing his Monthy Report, when suddenly something abrupt occured on the other side of the basket ball court. He instantly understood that "ZUROOR DALL MEIN KUCH KAALA HAI...!"
A group of guys were actually playing football in the basketball court when the ball went out of the court and another chap, standing near the stairs, kicked it back. This should have been taken as normal but it was not and at the very moment, the group advanced towards the single bare-handed guy. Wasting no time, the guy wanted to punch a member of the group BUT out of nowhere, his friends climbed down and tried to settle the affair, using abusive language. Remember, both the groups involved here are led by guys who are famous for their formal and informal dances on the Welcome Party Night. This ended here, but Agent X did not rest and soon found out that the rivalry had been going on since the party night. It actually started when a member of the first-mentioned group hit the other group's member during the dance... BY MISTAKE. However, after contacting both the parties, it is confirmed that the situation has returned to NORMAL once again.

Locker Painting Competition.

The posters of the locker painting competition were put up on the A-level notice boards and corridors by the third week of September, with the last date being the 9th of October, 2009. The rules were pretty clear stating to express ourselves in whatever way we could, be it grafitti or any kind of sketches. We had to use any sort of paints or other stuff that went well with the metal locker doors.
The main spirit behind the competition was to give us an oppurtunity to pour out our inner thoughts onto our own personal lockers, that would somehow reflect our personality. According to Mrs. Uppal the lockers would be a legacy passed on to the future batches to come and the first official A-level batch of the Lahore Grammar School, Paragon City would be remembered long after they leave the school thus creating a strong bond of affection between the alumnis and the newcomers.

One of the facts that really disappointed the judges was that there were hardly twenty to twenty-five lockers that were worked out of two hundred and fifteen lockers. Considering the fact that today's young generation is quite eager to scribble on nearly everything they get thier hands on, as depicted by the numerous illustrations on the desks and chairs in the A-level classrooms, the response was pretty low. The ones who did the effort did a remarkable job. It was good to see the Arts as well as the non-Arts students' bright ideas poured onto their lockers. The competition was judged by the junior Arts teacher Mrs. Wajeeha Khan and the winner was Hassan Pervaiz followed by Arslan Farrukh as he gained the second position.

Qirat Competition.

A qirat competition was held on 29th September, 2009 in the lecture hall of LGS Paragon city. The competition was amongst the students of O-levels and A-levels. Out of the 15 participants only two were from the A-levels, namely, Hafiz Aneeq Khatana and Hafiz Saad Ali. The O-levels students managed to outshine their seniors and walked away with the prize. The first position was won by Salman Safdar of 9-D, Bilal stood second and Danial Babar of 9-B got the third position.
